damn the colonizers

I wanted to better understand something which so deeply affects my friends
so I did a little tiny bit of research on gender and gender roles


As a feminist I struggled with the idea that so many people who believed in empowering women were merely allies. Many feminists, that I interact with anyway, do not follow the gender-binary. I felt that they were ashamed of being a woman. 
However I assumed such because I was ignorant. I don't believe these people to be ashamed of their sex, but instead angry with the social construct that western culture defines a woman to be. 
So why can't we redefine these structures? Well, because much like the meanings of words change (swagger is no longer that swanky walk of yours, I'm afraid) the meanings internalize. We pass it on from generation to generation. It is much easier to open up a whole new category. It works for two reasons. 1) there's nothing wrong with following what it means to be a woman or man and if you want keep struttin with, go on ahead. 2) Non gender-binary is completely new to the mainstream, if people really want to get you, they have to look it up and cant assume who you are. It gives the people power to define it however they please without previous connotation. 
So get to know your non gender-binary friend today! Because its actually really interesting the deeper you go.
(also this is a very short paragraph of stuff i thought was important for myself to better understand, please go out and do some more research because the topic is ridiculously bigger than this and its just a huge eye opener.. also look up gender marketing if you rlly want to get angry)
